NIPPLE CORRECTION

THE REASONS FOR CHOOSING NIPPLE CORRECTION

In most cases, it affects both sides. It results from tight connective tissue or issues with the ductal system connecting to the nipple. Nipple inversion or retraction can also develop later in life. This is acquired nipple inversion or retraction.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Nipple correction surgery is performed to treat inverted or enlarged nipples. The technique used depends on the patient. Nipple correction surgery is carried out mostly under local anesthetic. Inverted nipples are corrected by making a small cut on the outer side of the nipple. Milk ducts are stretched, and the nipple is released from the duct. The nipple is then stitched back into position using a dissolvable suture.

    THE CONSULTATION

We will go through your medical history and address any concerns and questions that you may have and discuss the risks and benefits of the treatment options with you.

You’ll be able to return to work in a day or two, but avoid exercise or strenuous activity for at least two weeks. You can expect to have some pain, tenderness, swelling, and numbness immediately after your procedure. This can usually be managed with an over-the-counter pain medication. It can take up to six weeks before the swelling and numbness resolve.

Your doctor can also recommend a surgical bra to protect your nipples during the recovery process. You’ll need to sleep on your back with a wedge backrest as you’re healing.
