What is Breast Implant Exchange?

If you have had breast implants and you have decided you do not want them anymore, they can be surgically removed or exchange. There are a lot of reasons you might want to change the shape or size of your breasts. Breast implant removal is the surgical procedure to remove the breast implants without replacing or exchanging the implant with a new implant along with dividing or removing some or all the capsule around the implant. Removal may give the breast a deflated appearance, some women opt for additional surgery in the form of implant replacement or breast uplift without implants.

Who would benefit from breast implant exchange?

Good candidates for breast implant revision surgery are healthy non-smokers at a stable weight who want to improve the size, shape, look, and feel of their breasts or correct a complication. Many women also choose to replace old saline implants with newer silicone gel implants, which can look and feel very natural.

Breast Implant Exchange Surgeons

Our team will consult you on multiple occasions prior to your surgery or treatment. They will also check on your recovery progress following your surgery in the follow-up consultations to ensure we achieve optimum results.

You'll be given anaesthesia during the surgery itself, so you won’t be able to feel anything. More good news: the recovery period for revision surgery is typically less painful than after an initial breast implant surgery.

Most women need two or three days of downtime after a revision, but the full recovery period can vary, depending on the complexity of your surgery and how much the tissue was disturbed. You can expect to feel sore and tired for up to 72 hours after surgery. You’ll also have swelling and bruising.

You’ll see initial results within three months, once most of the swelling has gone down, and your final results in about a year, once all swelling has subsided. It takes at least three months for your new breasts to “drop and fluff,” which means that your natural breast tissue has stretched to accommodate the implant and the muscles have relaxed.
